Episode 19.7 – The One Where the Recorder F*cks Us

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , , on January 26, 2012 by damedrfoxybrown

Episode 20, was amazing, in total we spent well over 4 hours talking to each other and hanging out on Skype. Unfortunately, my recorder decided you guys weren’t worthy of hearing all of the on-topic stuff and corrupted the files, so all I have to give you this week is the anime discussion. I doubt we’ll ever be able to replicate that level of magic, even if we have Doctor of the Ass Backwards Anime Podcast and Just A Gintama Podcast and his fraternal twin Michael of the One Podcast Prevails – A Detective Conan Podcast on together. I’m sorry it has to come to this, so I’m releasing this short fraction of an episode early to make up for it. By next week I’ll try to look into a different program and setup.

I’m Sorry this isn’t a full episode

(insert meme here)

Episode 16 – Defeat X And X Disgrace

There was going to be a meme-tastic insert song but I ended up so dejected by the missing audio files that I don’t even care anymore. Enjoy the short episode, I’m off to go drown my sorrows in overpriced, lukewarm hot chocolate and last week’s SUPER HERO TIME.

Episode 19 – You have to be Tricky to win

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , on January 22, 2012 by damedrfoxybrown

This week we chat a bit about episode 15, chapter 331, and a comment that baffled us last week suddenly makes perfect sense.

Download Episode 19

"Kurapika is the Martha Stewart of Rope Tying" --@bullet_beast

Watch Episode 15 – Explosion X of X Deception here.

Who wants to shake Hisoka face's hands with a firm grip? Any takers?

Chapter 331: X-Day
I think Hanzo/Cheadle is the second pairing we’ve randomly created since starting this show. I like that Diego’s theories are kind of boring, mine are completely mad and Bullet Beast’s find a sort of peaceful middle ground between the two. And clearly we just like discussing the Phantom Troupe over and over. I don’t know why I kept saying Ryuuseigai instead of Meteor City.

Chapter 332 Preview: Conspiracy X Ambition – Where’s it going?

Opening Song: Masatoshi Ono – departure! (Hunter X Hunter 2011)
Insert Song: Ame Agari (Hunter X Hunter Original Soundtrack)
Ending Song: Run DMC – It’s Tricky
All songs are property of original creators.

Episode 18 – 100 Nakamas on Moon

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 15, 2012 by damedrfoxybrown

Apologies for the somewhat late episode, I completely forgot I was supposed to be editing this until yesterday. Oops.

Download Episode 18

Episode 14 – Hit X The X Target

See Title of Image.

If you need assistance with what we found so hilarious about seven minutes in, here’s 9 minutes of completely golden audio, because I’m 90% sure Diego had no idea what we were laughing at.

If you’ve never listened to any of the other shows I’ve been on, Doctor/Michael is from The Ass Backwards Anime Podcast, the Just a Gintama Podcast (both of which I cohost) and the one he claims here, One Podcast Prevails – A Detective Conan Podcast

Randy Johnson vs. Bird

Sadly, our confidence in the York Shin arc airing in its entirety is very diminished as we’ve gone back over volume 9. Censoring this doesn’t seem like it would work as well.

Opening Song: Joou no Theme (Gensou) – The Queen’s Classroom OST
Insert Song: Spider vs. Mafia – Hunter X Hunter Original Soundtrack Volume 3
Ending Song: Apricot Adventure – Perfect Report OST (All of the songs on this soundtrack are named after colours for some weird reason).

We’ll be back next week

Posted in News on December 20, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

Due to the same sort of unforseen circumstances that prevented Diego from being on last week’s episode he’ll be absent from this one as well. Instead of hosting without him we decided that since it’s the holidays we’ll take this week off and return to recording as scheduled after Christmas has passed.

Enjoy your holidays.

Episode 16 – It’s Okay Eyebrows, We believe in You

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , , , , , on December 16, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

Due to some unforseen circumstances (car troubles) only Bullet Beast and I are in this episode. We do our best to soldier on without a third voice, and well, judge for yourselves.

Download Episode 16

Luckily Diego was unable to attend because he was going to defend the censorship in episode 11, and now we can save you having to type the hate mail and both of us having to read it.

Episode 11 – Trouble X With X The X Gamble

You have to enjoy watching this guy. He's awesome whenever he's on screen.

Short episode this week due to not doing the manga recap play.

Chapter 328 – Arrangements Discussion

Opening Song – Hard Iced
Insert Song – Next Step
Closing Song – Katari au omoi

All songs from the Hunter x Hunter Original Soundtracks

By the way shameless plug Bullet Beast recently did a guest spot on another show of mine the Just a Gintama Podcast

Episode 15 – Majority Decision

Posted in Podcast Episodes on December 12, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

An experimental new format for the anime episode review, which means YAY you get to hear less of me and more of Diego and Bullet Beast. Let us know how you feel about this way of doing things.

Download Episode 15

Trick to the Trick covers the aftermath of Kurapika’s battle in the Trick Tower.
Episode 10

Chapters 70-74 cover the beginning stages to the Auction at York Shin, introduce the Phantom Troupe and their purpose for being there (Spoilers: IT’S AWESOME), and tell us a bit more about Greed Island and Gon & Killua’s plan for raising money.

I for one, bow to our new censor overlords, because there's no way we get this panel animated as is.

Chapter 327
Our discussion goes off on a wild tangent and it really does seem as though the more episodes we release the more likely it is that our anti-pedophilia PSA is going to be recorded. You can hear us get progressively more and more tired as the session went on. It ended after 1am, so forgive us.
Opening Song: Kettou He No Jokyoku
Insert Songs: Haha to no Saikai & Kataki Ka Mikata Ka
Closing Song: York Shin no Masanami
All Songs Found on the Official Hunter X Hunter Soundtracks.

You can email us at hxhpodcast@gmail.com, tweet the group @hxhpodcast and of course Like us on Facebook.

Warning, Comments may contain spoilers.

PS. Sorry about the humming in this episode. I will figure out the source of this at some point. I know it’s on my end.

Episode 14 – Dynamic Duo

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , on November 30, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

First there was Batman and Robin, and then came the teamup of Marshall Mathers and Andre Young, but Hunter X Hunter boasts a potentially even greater teamup, replete with what appears to be backstabbings galore. Unfortunately, that’s completely spoiler and hypothetical territory.

Download Episode 14

Spiders, gotta name them all.

Episode 9
To all of my poor friends that got slandered, I apologize on behalf of the other two. There has yet to be a PreCure episode of the Ass Backwards Anime Podcast, I was instead thinking of this Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha episode instead, so if you’re into that sort of thing, it exists and Dominic was most definitely not in it.

Chapters 67-69 are setup chapters for the York Shin arc that is just about ready to jump off and it also hints at the followup Greed Island arc.

After the disastrous events of last week regarding the Chapter 325 discussion you’re instead treated to a discussion on why my personal hangups prevent me from liking Killua in this arc. Chapter 326 is discussed in full and both Diego and Bullet Beast throw out some interesting thoughts on how the next few chapters will go.

Episode 13 – I’m going to Kill Bullet Beast, but he sounds good as a woman

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , on November 26, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

So good news, we have Dominic of the AniManga podcast. The bad news is that this week’s episode will not have the manga recap of chapter 325 due to me not even knowing what happened. So you all will miss out on hearing us talk about the latest manga happenings with a near-noobish Dominic listening and not contributing at all.

Download Episode 13

One of these days Tonpa, straight to the moon!

Episode 8
Chapters 64-66 give us some more detail about Ging’s life before being a Hunter, as well as clarifies Gon’s relationship with Mito a bit and gives context to the statements that he sees her as his mother moreso than whoever his biological mother is. Do we know why Mito hated the idea of Gon being a Hunter so much? Maybe? Do we know why she’s so bitter? Well…we’ve got theories.

Next week’s episode is going to have a double manga recap (at least) so those of you that join us for that, look forward to a discussion of why I like Killua less now.

Opening Song: Toi Kioku
Insert Song: Ganbarishiyou
Ending Song: Curtain Call

All songs from the Hunter X Hunter Soundtracks.

Unofficial Promo

Posted in Media on November 22, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

12 episodes in and we’re committing to advertising by making ourselves a promo. We have what could be a pretty fun idea but we could use your help. If you want to participate send us a short (1-2 sentences) audio recording of your response to the prompt. “Hunter X Hunter is…” and it doesn’t have to be in English if you send us a written English translation. Yes Snowy, you’re required to send us one. The description can be serious or silly. Send all entries to hxhpodcast@gmail.com.

Episode 12 – A Wing and a Prayer

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 19, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

The episode begins as it always has, and it always will. We discuss episode 7 of the new anime series where we finally decide we can dig Killua’s portrayal this time around, even though we still have some nitpicks. The chapter review is of the conclusion of the Heavens Arena, chapters 61-63, and lastly we get more of the Zoldycks and their beautiful dysfunction in Chapter 324.

Download Episode 12

It's shit like this Hisoka. This is why we can't have nice things.

We discuss some info a fan passed to us regarding the licensing of the new series and Hunter X Hunter’s horrible position in Weekly Shounen Jump.

I wish I had some PSA or “A very Special Episode” type music for the last segment. And you’ll only know why if you listen to the end. That’s a horrible tease I know, and I’m not sorry.

Also, this Alluka stuff is complicated man.

Opening Song: Youko Keshi Soshite no Masanami
Insert Songs:

Hunter x Hunter no Tema ~Daiti no Kodo~
Minesawagi

Ending Song: Yoake

All songs from the Hunter X Hunter Soundtracks.

PS. Adopt abused dogs.

PPS. As for the ending blurb, well, I’m on this other little podcast called the Ass Backwards Anime Podcast, and we’re even more insane.

Episode 11.55 – I hope nobody out there is a Milluki fan

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 9, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

Yeah, like the title says, if you like the largest of the 5 Zoldyck siblings, apologies, we’re not nice to the man at all, though admittedly it’s well deserved. By the by, no I do not remember what Bullet Beast was talking about at the very beginning of this segment but it sounds funny so I left it in.

Download Episode 11.55
In retrospect I probably didn’t need to split this episode up. Oh well. We forgot to cover some news that maybe we’ll get to next week, and apologies to Sam, we’ll discuss your question next week too.

See now that's a face even your mother could hate. Even if your mother was Kikyou Zoldyck, she who possesses Hellgate betwixt her legs.

Opening Song: Silver no Toujou
This song from the Hunter X Hunter original soundtrack.

Ending Song: Ogon Soul by Shonan no Kaze
This song is obviously not but it’s too awesome to not expose everyone I can to it.

Episode 11 – Menchi doesn’t even eat pork

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 9, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

Since the total audio length runs in at just about 3 hours, I’m splitting this one up again, but this is totally not a habit, nor is this early release. I’m just taking advantage of a rare chance to release around the same time as the new chapter.

Download Episode 11

In this first half we’re covering episode 6 of Shin Hunter X Hunter, chapters 58-60 of the manga, and we answer a pair of emails sent in by Twitter’s BOYWEC.

Me too Hisoka. Me too.

Opening Song: Mujakina Chousensha ~ Gon no Tema ~
Insert Song: Seinie
Ending Song: Tactics

All songs from the Hunter x Hunter original soundtracks.

Episode 10.2 – 98% of the Zoldyck family problems could be solved by talking to each other and then hugging it out.

Posted in Podcast Episodes with tags , , , , , , on November 6, 2011 by damedrfoxybrown

Chapter 322 discussion runs a bit long, so here you have it in its entirety, and non-manga listeners can avoid being spoiled. Everyone else, you know the rules, spoilers for the whole series.

Download Episode 10.2
Bullet Beast accurately predicts Alluka’s ability as we know it so far in chapter 323 by comparing him/her to Neon Nostrade and her (former) Ghostwriter ability.

Ghost Rider

By the way, this episode has very minimal editing, but there shouldn’t be any major issues. We also take some time to talk about our disappointments with some directorial choices in the anime series so far, namely the censorship and the damage to Killua’s character as it stands 5 episodes in. We talk a bit about some other mature series MADHOUSE has handled lately, namely the Hellsing OVAs (itself a truer to the manga adaptation rather than the TV series like Hunter X Hunter 2011) and mention Black Lagoon in passing.

Opening Song: Kari
Ending Song: Hotaru
All songs from the Hunter x Hunter original soundtracks.
