Episode 11 – Menchi doesn’t even eat pork

Since the total audio length runs in at just about 3 hours, I’m splitting this one up again, but this is totally not a habit, nor is this early release. I’m just taking advantage of a rare chance to release around the same time as the new chapter.

They certainly didn’t have the old fans in mind when they made this new show, that’s for darn sure.

I’m going to give them until the Killua-Illumi meeting. If they manage to mess that up, I’m out.

  3. Re, it being “just” the three of you again: Don’t know if you guys listen to a lot of podcasts , but I generally feel that three is the magic number. Not that I haven’t enjoyed the guest hosts (you really need to find another “HxH virgin” to come on) , but if it’s four of you, at least one tends not to get a single word in, and that’s a shame. Three works great.

You handled the dreaded episode well. Covered all the bases and even mentioned those few things they did get right. Never let it be said that you guys aren’t being fair and generous to the new anime people.

In the spirit of positivism, I looked long and hard for something I liked in this new version, and it’s this : That shot of Gon in his apron, trying to look as if he had it all figured out. That was priceless. For the rest of it, I agree with Menchi : FAIL !

Thanks for the Hisoka screencap. That still makes me chuckle.

  4. If they keep cutting stuff like this, we’re more than half way through the exam arc already, so here’s my halftime assessment :

Don’t know about the rest of you, but so far, I wouldn’t dream of recommending this to my friends. The old show and the manga ? Yes, in a heartbeat, but this ? I’m almost embarrassed to be caught watching it. It’s too kiddy. The old one was dark and exciting. In this one I keep expecting team rocket to show up.

They get some things right in ep 7 : Hisoka’s orgasmic little chuckle, and Killua’s Rythm Echo music, but it’s too little, too late. And of course I didn’t expect them to animate that manga page where Killua slices and dices those two guys, but if they’re going to pull back the camera that far for every bloody scene, they might as well not bother at all.

(I can see it now : The sight of Jones’s dripping, beating heart, artfully obscured by a strategically placed vase, filled with pretty flowers )

Oh, and another thing : In the original anime it was Gon who went : “Ooo, look at all the pretty lights !”, which makes sense, him being a country bumpkin and all. But here, and I have to watch this again to make sure I didn’t dream this, it’s Killua ! Goddamnit, new anime people ! Read the manga !

(I read it again, and noticed a neat detail : Hisoka still has a mark where Gon hit him with his fishing pole )

    • That’s my post, btw. 8 shots of tequila and I forgot my name.

Anyhoo, what do you guys think Hisoka’s reaction will be when he meets Tsubone ?

      a) “Mommy, is that you ?”
      b) “It’s over 5000 !!”
      c) *I-just-came* face

Meh, I’m missing the filler again (Leorio trying to pick up Anita, that business with Menchi, etc..) so I generally agree, I guess, but let’s give them some credit :

Yes, Killua goes “Whoa, look !” first, but Gon still has the “pretty lights” line. And in the manga you can’t actually tell who speaks first, but yeah, it would have to be Gon. Don’t want to nitpick too much, so I’m letting that one slip.
Killua’s first onscreen kill was sufficiently shocking, with or without the closeup, I think. Although while they were certainly dead in the manga, I’m not sure they are here. Did the narrator subtract them from the total number of participants ? I have no idea. Don’t even remember if he killed those guys in the original.

And to be fair, the flower vase blocking offensive scenes trick…, they actually use that in the original, when Hisoka is having his arm sewn back on.

I think they will show the Jones scene. But only for a split second.

Oh hey, are you guys recording now ? *waves* 🙂
